Friday Night Lights “for your emmy consideration” video from last year (it FINALLY won, for writing and KYLE CHANDLER).
This show is hands down my favorite ever. There have been many TV shows over the course of time that have had fairly profound impacts on me—I unabashedly love TV, especially dramas. Starting with (don’t laugh) Dawson’s Creek and 90210, TV’s been my jam, and, at one point, it was what I thought I wanted to do with my life (and who knows what may lie ahead?). The West Wing, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, The Sopranos…it really makes me happy when I find a show I can lose myself in because it’s so great.
Friday Night Lights was somehow more than that. It came on when my love of football was changing and expanding, and right as I was making the decision to embark on a huge, all encompassing life change by leaving New York. I think I thought Tampa would be a little like Dillon (there are tidbits, but for the most part I was WAY off on that one) and I wanted to live in a place that was so definitive (not knowing at that point that New York forever will take the prize for me when it comes to places that shape who I am). I also put the Taylors’ relationship on a pedestal, as I think most people who watched this show did, and I still hold out hope that one day I’ll find a guy who’ll be my partner, who’ll make me feel like we’re in this together no matter what, who’ll balance me out. And I think the TV industry in general will be hard pressed to EVER wrap up a show as deftly as Friday Night Lights ended. The bar is now set in the STRATOSPHERE.
This video does SUCH a ridiculously phenomenal job of telling the story of this show, from start to finish. I love it.
